More than 95% of animals for sale at Petland USA stores are from commercial puppy mills. According to transport and shipping records from the Department of Agriculture involving more than 5 States, 17,000 puppies delivered to Petland stores were sourced from puppy mills. USDA inspection records were cross-checked and source facilities were visited to confirm this fact. HSUS led this investigation.

Petland Canada has announced they will stop selling pets, why not Petland USA? Successful Petland franchisee conversions to adoption models are operating in PA with help from local shelters.

We know the Master Franchisor (Petland USA, Ohio) cannot by fiat dictate that everyone follow a new policy. They can announce their intention and new policy and current franchisees are free to run their businesses as they see fit. Yet a sea-change in policy from the top would be a giant leap in saving lives and changing Petland's reputation and market share. It would not take long for laggards to follow as we push for legislation against selling pets and picket with adopt don't shop signs.

FOSTER GIRL CHIHUAHUA 'BELLA" FROM DEATH ROW SHELTER

(Click Photo) ~ ~ "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING" ~ MY "BELLA" is one year and a half and rescued in the last minutes of her life. She was dumped in the shelter with her mother. Both shivering with fear and starvation, being too scared to eat, we worked at a furious pace collecting funds to get them out. Unfortunately by the time we had gotten funds together, the shelter had already murdered her mother, leaving 3lb.tiny Bella, terrorized and frozen in fear as her mother was ripped away from her to never return. She spent 2 nights by herself in a cold cement cell with no warmth in shock and frozen. The shelter never gave us a reason they felt the need to kill her mother leaving Bella alone, no extra space was made available, they callously stated "HER TIME WAS UP". I hand fed her for weeks to get her to eat, I had to follow her around the house just to pick her up, as she scattered away, coward with her belly down to the floor. She was scared of humans and everything around her. Although she stuck to me like glue when I held her, it took her days to lift her head and look at me in the eyes. When she finally did, she wouldn't stop staring with a desperate hopeful gaze of "are you for real?" She has bounced back beautifully! Her twinkle has replaced her old vacant and dark dull stare of hopelessness. I call her my little "Pony" as she prances around the house and rears on her hind feet to dance and play. "Bella" the beautiful little warrior for life, is the most playful, funny, and loving little soul.
